Microsoft® Word 2010 Protected View

Protected View means read only mode. When a file is opened in this mode then threats that may enter into the file will be prevented. Thus the Protected View can forcefully open a file using the protected view option. Microsoft Word 2010 will open a file in Protected View when the user opens a file which is downloaded from internet. MS Word will detect this file from the flag. If the flag is set then MS Word 2010 will open that particular file in Protected View. If a file is received as an attachment in MS Outlook then also MS Word 2010 will open it in Protected View.

About Protected view
Protected View is actually a read only mode. A file that is downloaded from the internet or other unsafe locations may contain worms, viruses etc that can make harm the system. For protecting the computer from such threats files that get downloaded from any unauthorized location will be opened only in the Protected View so that the user cannot edit, save or print the documents or files thus minimize the risks that may happen. The file may open in Protected View also when the file is blocked by file block or even it is received as an MS Outlook 2010.
Planning Protected View settings
Protected View in MS Word 2010 will mitigate different kinds of exploits. The exploits means opening of the documents, workbooks, presentations etc which is in a sandbox environment. The process or memory that is separated from the components of the Operating System and the applications is called as sandbox. The programs that run in the environment of sandbox are considered as less dangerous because of the isolation. The sandbox environment is used for preventing the processes and applications that harm the system and for testing the services and applications that may make the system unstable. The user cannot edit, save or print the contents of a file when that file is opened in Protected View. When a user is using protected view then they cannot see the digital signature details as well.
In Microsoft Excel 2010, Word 2010 and PowerPoint 2010 the Protected View will is enabled by default. The files will open in the Protected View under certain conditions only. A file skips or fails to get the MS Office file validation if it is convinced that a file is not safe by the AES zone information or a user himself open a file in the Protected View or when a file is opened in a location that is unsafe. If a file is a trusted document or it is opened in a trusted location then the file will not open in Protected View normally.
