1. Database-attach upgrade

A database attach upgrade allows you to "attach" restored copies created in your Office Project 2007 databases to a new Project 2010 installation. When the Microsoft Project Web App instance is created, it will take a backup of all the Office Project 2007 farm databases and restore it on Microsoft SQL Server, and the new Microsoft Project 2010 farm points to these restored databases.

2. In-place upgrade

An in-place upgrade allows you to install Project 2010 on the same memory hardware on which your Microsoft Project 2007 is installed, and then move to the content and settings in your server farm which is a part of single process.
