Creating a theme in Microsoft PowerPoint 2010
Did you know that you could create themes in Microsoft PowerPoint 2010? One of the best applications for creating presentations allows you to create themes for your presentations. The best thing about creating a theme for your presentations is that the content on the slides will go well with the theme and you have a proper control over the fonts and the colors in the presentation. Now, let us see how you can create a theme in Microsoft PowerPoint 2010.
What is a theme?
A theme is a collection of different components in Microsoft PowerPoint 2010. You can see the existing themes in Microsoft PowerPoint 2010 in the Design tab on the Ribbon that you see on top of the window. A theme is a collection of colors, fonts, and other such components that you can use on your slides in Microsoft PowerPoint 2010. You cannot directly create a theme in Microsoft PowerPoint 2010 but you need to create a set of colors, fonts, select the effects and background styles that you want to use for your presentations and then save the preferences as a theme.
Creating Theme Colors
Here’s how you can create colors for your presentation / theme. Click on the Design tab to being the process. Once you’re in the Design tab, select the option ‘Colors’. A dropdown menu would be displayed on the screen where you can select colors for your theme. For creating a new set of colors for the theme, select the option ‘Create New Theme Colors’. A window would pop up on the screen where you need to select the colors for the theme. Once you select the required colors for the theme, save the colors and select ‘Save’ to save the new theme colors.
Creating Theme Fonts and selecting Effects
On the same Design tab, below the Colors option, you would find the option ‘Fonts’. Once you select the option, a dropdown would be displayed where you need to select the option ‘Create New Theme Fonts’. A small window would be displayed on the screen where you need to select the fonts for headings and body of the presentation. Once you select the required fonts, name the set of fonts and save them. After you create the Theme Fonts, you need to select the option ‘Effects’ and choose the desired effects for your presentation. You cannot create effects in Microsoft PowerPoint 2010, but can only choose from the existing set of Effects that are available to you.
Saving the theme
After you create the Colors, Fonts and select the Effects for your presentation, you need to save the theme. This can be done by clicking the ‘more’ button on the ‘Themes’ option in Design tab. Once you select that, a dropdown menu would appear on the screen from where you need to select the option ‘Save Current Theme’ to save your theme. Once you save the theme, you can start creating your presentation which will have the newly created theme.
