Microsoft® Office Social Connector
Features: Microsoft Outlook Social Connector is available now as part of the Microsoft Office 2010 Beta. It is specifically designed to link Microsoft Outlook to social networks. However, till now, it communicates only with LinkedIn.
Usability: To keep a track of your friends, colleagues and relatives, Microsoft has launched a new application, named as Microsoft Outlook Social Connector. This program helps you in expanding your professional network.
Microsoft Outlook Social Connector is one medium that has led Microsoft to incorporate social media into Microsoft Outlook. As of now, this application is available only with LinkedIn but it is being expected that as soon as Microsoft Office 2010 gets released, it will support Facebook, MySpace, and Windows Live.
View your friend’s profile and updates and add new connections
Microsoft Outlook Social Connector is a unique medium for keeping yourself updated with what your friends are up to. In today's world, when you are extremely busy, it becomes impossible at times to remain in contact with each and every friend of yours. Install this application to just know what is new in the lives of your friends.
Stay in touch with your near and dear ones in your networks by accessing everything from e-mail threads to status updates in one single, centralized view
This new feature can help you in connecting by default to the new social networking experiences in Microsoft SharePoint. Connectivity to any network, including Microsoft SharePoint, is built using our public extensibility platform
Conversations View helps you respond to complicated e-mail conversations
At times, when you are not able to answer some e-mails instantly, this tool will help you in replying to them.
Displays a quick view of related Microsoft Outlook content when a contact’s name is clicked
Supposedly, if you have a contact updated in Microsoft Outlook Social Connector, you are saved from the pain of saving all the details, including phone number, e-mail address, permanent address and other contact information at different locations. All you have to do is just click on the contact once and the entire information will be displayed on your monitor.
Bring together communications history, contact information, and professional and social networking information into the Microsoft Outlook experience
Microsoft Outlook Social Connector makes it easier for you to spread your network; by clicking the ‘+’ symbol underneath a person’s picture. Moreover, you can send a request to be their colleague on any of the networks you are connected to. This application also synchronizes your colleagues from each of your connected networks and saves them as contacts in Microsoft Outlook, which allows you to easily send messages, call, or synchronize contacts just as you would any other Microsoft Outlook contact.
Below the Microsoft Outlook's Reading Pane, appears a horizontal pane, called as the People Pane, which actually represents Microsoft Outlook Social Connector. This pane helps you in connecting with the social networks and also serves as a central point for all of your communications with anyone in Microsoft Outlook.
Whenever an e-mail is highlighted by you, this pane will show a list of all the recent communications between you and the sender or receiver of that e-mail: e-mails, meetings, RSS feeds, attachments and LinkedIn status updates by default. For viewing details about any communication, you can open a separate Microsoft Outlook window.
The People Pane can be turned on and off through the View menu in Microsoft Outlook. Its size can also be changed.
iYogi suggests that before downloading this application, install Microsoft Outlook 2003, Microsoft Outlook 2007 or the beta version of Microsoft Outlook 2010. Microsoft Outlook Social Connector is compatible with only these versions of productivity suites.
