Microsoft® Office 2010 No Default Mail client

A mail client is an application that handles emails straight from your desktop. It provides easy access to emails as well as addresses and other contact information that are often needed quickly. Microsoft has its own mail client offering named Microsoft Outlook, which is packaged in every version of Microsoft Office 2010. Even if it’s already packaged in Microsoft Office 2010, users still have the freedom to choose other mail clients aside from Microsoft Outlook.
“Either there is no default mail client or the current mail client cannot fulfill the messaging request. Please run Microsoft Outlook and set it as the default mail client.”
It is caused by a variety of reasons that can be solved by their corresponding solutions. Here’s a list of common solutions:
- Set Microsoft Outlook as the default mail client
- Repair the corrupted Microsoft Outlook registry key
- Restore the Microsoft Outlook Dynamic Link Library
Set Microsoft Outlook as the default mail client
Sometimes users replace the Microsoft Outlook with another mail client that the Microsoft Office 2010 is unable to interface with. The only solution to this is to install Microsoft Outlook if you don't have it yet or to make sure that it is the default mail client. This is rather easy to do and you can access this from Outlook itself. Launch Internet Explorer and go to Internet Options under the Tools menu. In the Programs tab, select Microsoft Outlook then click OK.
Repair the corrupted Microsoft Outlook registry key
It is also possible that the registry key entry of Microsoft Outlook has been corrupted. Microsoft Office applications may not be able to retrieve the correct information when trying to access the simple MAPI interface of Microsoft Outlook. To repair this problem, you would need to edit the registry and delete the registry entry of Microsoft Outlook. You can then launch Microsoft Outlook and click on the Detect and Repair entry under the Help menu. Microsoft Outlook would automatically detect the missing registry entry and restore the correct values.
If you have installed other applications that install an older version of MAPI32.DLL in your system32 folder, Microsoft Outlook would not update this file during installation. To correct this problem, you should extract the MSMAPI32.DLL file from the Microsoft Outlook cab to the system32 folder and rename it into MAPI32.DLL.
Tracing and repairing the possible cause of the error can be quite daunting if not downright frustrating, especially if you have no clue on what you're doing. It is best to consult computer experts that can do the task for you at a fraction of the time and get you back to doing what you do.
