Applications in Microsoft® Office 2010 for iPhone®

Microsoft announced that their Microsoft Office 2010 productivity suite will be available for public release by June 2010. While the Microsoft Public Beta of the Microsoft Office 2010 software is already available for downloading, the announcement from Microsoft was significant in that it laid out the company's strategy for enabling easier access of Microsoft Office from mobile phones. According to the Microsoft statement, Microsoft Office 2010 on mobile phones will be accessible in two ways. The Microsoft Office 2010 Web Apps version and the Microsoft Office Mobile 2010 version. The free to download Web Apps version of Microsoft Office 2010 supports the Apple Safari 4 browser on iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS. However, this version does not permit the editing of files and users may only view Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft PowerPoint and Microsoft OneNote documents. Editing of Microsoft Office documents is available with Microsoft Office Mobile 2010. Unfortunately, this version of Microsoft Office runs solely on Windows 6.5 Mobile OS which means that it is not an ideal tool for editing Microsoft Office documents for iPhone users.
- Enables the viewing of Microsoft Word documents
- Helpful for viewing spreadsheets and presentations
- Enables access to documents from Windows Live
Enables the viewing of Microsoft Word documents
You can easily view Microsoft Word documents using the Microsoft Office 2010 iPhone application on the go. Imagine, you are finishing up a report with a colleague before going out of town. While you’re on the train you get a message from your colleague, letting you know that the report is finished, with a link to the word document. You click the link, and Mobile Viewer for Microsoft Word easily displays the document in your Apple iPhone’s browser.
Helpful for viewing spreadsheets and presentations
You are also enabled to view the Microsoft Excel spreadsheets. Imagine that your group is planning an event and is keeping track of possible venues in a spreadsheet. You’re returning from a vacation, sitting in the airport and you want to check on the rating of a particular venue. You’ve saved the web address of your group’s spreadsheet and you open it in your Apple iPhone’s browser. Mobile Viewer for Microsoft Excel 2010 displays a small set of rows and columns, and helps you search to find the information you need. You are also allowed to view Microsoft PowerPoint presentation in your iPhone using the Microsoft Word iPhone application.
You can easily access the documents in your Windows Live account. In order to view Microsoft Word or Microsoft PowerPoint files, use your iPhone’s web browser to navigate to your Windows Live SkyDrive page. Its web address is the same URL as the one in your iPhone’s browser. It is displayed in the address bar of your desktop browser. You can also view document from your Microsoft SharePoint library.
