Step 1: Open Outlook 2010.
Step 2: Click the ‘File’ tab. Click ‘Options.’
Step 3: Select ‘Mail’ tab from the left pane and then click ‘Spelling and AutoCorrect.’
Step 4: Click ‘AutoCorrect Options.’ And then click ‘:)’ (Colon and round bracket closed) from the list. Notice the ‘smiley’ emoticon in the AutoCorrect dictionary.
Step 5: Click ‘OK’ and then again click ‘OK’ twice.
Step 6: Click ‘Home’ tab and then click ‘New E-mail’ on the menu bar.
Step 7: A new blank email opens. Click the ‘Insert’ tab. Select ‘Symbol.’ And then click ‘More Symbols.’
Step 8: The Symbol dialog box appears. Change the ‘Font’ drop-down list to ‘Wingdings.’
Step 9: Locate the smiley face. Click the image and then the ‘Insert’ button. The smiley face emoticon is inserted into the email.
Step 10: Highlight the emoticon and click the ‘AutoCorrect’ button in the Symbol dialog box.
Step 11: Notice that the smile appears in the ‘With’ field. Type ‘:)’ (Colon and round bracket closed) in the ‘Replace’ field.
Step 12: Click ‘Add’ and then ‘OK.’
Step 13: Close the ‘Symbol’ dialog box.
Step 14: Test the emoticon by typing ‘:)’ (Colon and round bracket closed) in the body of the email. Notice that it becomes the ‘smiley’ emoticon.
