There may be some problems with the iPhone when you try to synchronize contacts, e-mail and or timing of your iPhone or iPod Touch on a PC with Microsoft Office 2010. iTunes also displays an error message which tells you it was unable to synchronize the operation. The solution to this is to set Microsoft Office 2010 as a default program and then open Microsoft Office 2010, click on 'Tools' then 'Options' and click on 'Others'. You should check the box 'Set Microsoft Office 2010 as default program for messaging', then click 'Contacts', 'Calendar' then finally click 'Ok'.

There is an open source mobile application server project that was started in 2001 and created a plug-in to wirelessly synchronize contacts from Microsoft Outlook 2010. As well as adding contacts from Microsoft Outlook, the plug-in also allows synchronization with Yahoo Mail, Google Mail, Gnome Evolution (a groupware application for Gnome) and servers using the SyncML standard. Phone manufacturers including Nokia, Motorola and Sony Ericsson already support the latter.
Connect device to iPhone
Contact synchronization on an iPhone currently requires hooking up the device to iTunes with a cable. The application allows the action to take place over Wi-Fi or via the cellular Edge network used by iPhones. The open networks and devices are on the rise and are transforming the mobile industry. Open-source community of Funambol has been operating for years and delivers innovation that gives people access to features they otherwise wouldn't have.
There is a SyncEvolution tool to access contact data on an iPhone. It is an obvious choice for the task because it was a well established, open standard for data synchronization. It will add a calendar and push-email synchronization to its plug-in when the SDK is released. Right now, iPhone is targeted at the consumer market, it is expected that its popularity will inevitably bring the handset into use in businesses as well. However, it is not yet totally clear about the security implications of this move. Some experts have suggested that the more open approach adopted by the Google Android mobile platform might make that environment more secure.
