Upgrade Pricing for Microsoft® Office 2010 Editions

Microsoft says “No” to offer upgrade pricing for Microsoft Office 2010 editions.
Earlier in Jan 2010, Microsoft revealed that it is not going to offer discounted "upgrade" versions of Microsoft Office 2010. This has come as a bad surprise for the users who are using an older version of Microsoft Office and obviously customers have to spend some more money to enjoy the features of this tool.
To add to the disappointment of the users, there will only be three versions of Microsoft Office 2010 available to most customers, down from five for Microsoft Office 2007.
Along with denying the upgrade pricing for Office 2010, Microsoft has also spelled out prices for its new "key cards," as well as single-license codes that will be put up for sale at up to 30% off boxed copy prices, for upgrading the Microsoft Office Starter 2010 mini-suite that many computer makers are expected to pre-install on new PCs.
Boxed Version
Boxed version of Microsoft Office Home and Student 2010 includes Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft PowerPoint and Microsoft OneNote and is available at $149. Paying this amount, you can install the suite on three household PCs. At a cost of $119, you can get single-license key card, thus costing 20% less than the boxed copy.
Microsoft Office Home and Business 2010
In this version, you get Microsoft Outlook e-mail client added to the four applications available in Microsoft Office Home and Student 2010. This version is available at a price of $249 and can be installed on maximum two PCs. One-license key card priced at $199 is 20% savings to your budget.
Microsoft Office Professional 2010
Microsoft Office Professional 2010 has added tools Microsoft Publisher and Microsoft Access (latter is Microsoft desktop database software) and is available at a price of $499 and can be installed on a pair of PCs. You can get the single-license key card at $349, a discount of 30%.
Microsoft Office Professional Academic 2010
Microsoft Office Professional Academic 2010 is an edition available for K-12 and college students, staff and faculty and has same application as Microsoft Office Professional 2010. You can get this version by paying an amount of $99 and can install it on two PCs. There is no key card option available for this edition.
Though there is no pricing for the upgrade version of Microsoft Office 2010, Microsoft is offering a new key card, which is small credit card-sized piece of plastic that includes a single license activation key. It is especially for the customers who purchase a new PC with Microsoft Office Starter 2010 pre-installed on it.
Microsoft Office 2010 is expected to be released in June 2010 and as per the sources, Microsoft is going to offer a promotion at some point before it is released. If the sources are to be believed, buyers of Microsoft Office 2007 will get a free or heavily-discounted copy of the new Microsoft Office 2010 when it will be launched.
