Web Based Microsoft® Office 2010 Applications
Technical Preview of Microsoft Office 2010 was released in the month of July 2009. Microsoft has previewed its Microsoft Office Web Apps that are available to the partners. The latest web applications for Microsoft PowerPoint 2010, Microsoft Excel 2010, Microsoft Word 2010, Microsoft Outlook 2010 and Microsoft SharePoint 2010 have some minor upgrades and iterations that make this new productivity suite more functional as compared to its previous versions.
It is expected that the Microsoft Office Web Apps will be full lightweight versions of the products, allowing users to create, edit, save, and share docs on the web and will be available for free to the users. The only requirement that you have to meet to use Microsoft Office Web Apps will be a Microsoft Windows Live account.

Web-based Microsoft PowerPoint 2010
The web-version of Microsoft PowerPoint 2010 application has some extra features that have been added to its desktop version. While using Microsoft PowerPoint 2010, you can now edit the videos and images with a basic video editing tool and an image editing tool, which is like a basic, simple version of Adobe Photoshop. Further, there is also an added facility of launching a WebEx-like live sharing feature with other users.
You can now send an e-mail to individuals with a link for sharing a deck with the other users. They can see the slideshow within the browser once they click on the link. You can also use this feature via mobile phone.
Creating a slideshow in the desktop version and then publishing it to the web version gets easier with the latest application.
Web-based Microsoft Excel 2010
In its web-version, Microsoft Excel spreadsheets can now run in the browser, and can be published to the browser via the desktop version. Though, the browser version of Microsoft Excel has restricted features, but offers more in-depth functionality than Google Spreadsheets. There is an innovative feature called Sparklines, which gives a visual snapshot image of a data trend over time within a cell. Adding on, you can also share Microsoft Excel via the browser with other users and set special permissions on who can access the document.
Keeping in mind the requirements of its users, Microsoft has added “Document Fidelity” to the web-version of Microsoft Word 2010. Hence, the document has the same look and feel as in the desktop. There is a “ribbon user interface” to change fonts, size, formatting and styles.
Web-version of Microsoft Outlook 2010 now has a ribbon user interface, like Microsoft Word, Microsoft PowerPoint and Microsoft Excel. Microsoft has upgraded the user interface of e-mail conversations to look almost like a message tree, thus allowing the users a more visual view of sent and incoming emails. There has been some improvement done in the “Search functionality” to make it easier for you to find the content. You can now preview calendars in e-mails and choose to ignore selective e-mail conversations.
Like Microsoft Outlook, the web-version of Microsoft SharePoint has a new ribbon UI, thus making the document-hosting product familiar to Microsoft flagship products, like Microsoft Word. Now, with this application, you can label authors of documents as well as can share and edit the documents in a much easier way.
The web-based applications of Microsoft Office 2010 have been tested on major browsers and are still being tested to function on Google Chrome.
